A month at the Godalming Office

I have been working as a tax trainee at Shipleys Godalming Office for just over a month now, and what a month it has been. Having graduated in History it was certainly a daunting prospect entering work at an accountancy firm but everyone here has been welcoming and made me feel right at home.

It started with an induction which was a nice chance to say hello to everyone and good way to get to know the place. I was given work to get on with from the get go which was super helpful in furthering my understanding of the day to day workings of the tax department here. The fact that they are supporting my training and qualifications in order to become a Chartered Tax Adviser is also an amazing opportunity. Welcome drinks came at the end of my first week which was a great opportunity to meet everyone in a relaxed environment and good way to welcome me to the firm.

People were quick to invite me to the various activities that go on around here such as the annual Shipleys golf day which is certain to be a good laugh as well as two other drinks events for other members of staff. It definitely good to be a part of such a social group of people. I couldn’t have asked for a better start to my work here and I look forward to whatever is coming my way over the rest of the year!

Will be sure to post again soon with some more updates! Until next time.

I graduated from the University of Kent with a degree in History then took a year out working in fashion and travelling before joining Shipleys as a Tax Trainee in July 2017. I am currently studying to get my ATT and CTA qualifications. Outside of work I enjoy playing sports and travelling.

First week at Shipleys

So my first week at Shipleys… Amazing! On my first day I was given an induction, showed around the office and introduced to the team (who are all Super friendly!).  I joined Shipleys in the Godalming office as an Accounts Junior specialising in accounts preparation, and by the Tuesday I was already working on a small Limited Companies accounts. Its great that I had plenty of work to get my teeth  into in the first week! Whenever I wasn’t sure on something all I had to do was ask another staff member and they were more than willing to help me.

Come Friday I was really pleased at how my first week at Shipleys had gone – I’d already learnt lots of new things and met some amazing people –  everyone at Shipleys made me feel really welcome. We all went to the pub for a drink at lunch to congratulate me on my first week in the company! I can’t wait to further my career at Shipleys and start my ACCA training – in which they are supporting me along the way!

Until my next post

I completed my AAT Studies from Level 2 to Level 4 alongside working in a small firm of accountants in my hometown of Bristol. A short time after graduating as an accounting technician I moved to Godalming with my partner and joined Shipleys in July 2017 as an Accounts Junior, specialising in accounts preparation. I am soon to start my ACCA Studies with Shipleys. Outside work I enjoy seeing friends and being adventurous.
